The Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kwara State, Hajia Fatima Abiola-Popoola, has suggested that mandatory drug tests should be implemented for newly admitted university students as part of their admission process.
Hajia Abiola-Popoola emphasized that such tests would act as a preventive measure while offering early intervention and counseling for students already using drugs, aiming to prevent them from becoming problematic users.
She made this proposal during a radio program in Ilorin, where she also expressed concern over the increasing number of drug users in Nigeria.
Citing a 2018 survey, she said, “14.3 million people were using drugs in Nigeria. One out of seven persons in Nigeria is a drug user, and one out of four drug users is a woman.
This shows that society is in trouble because a woman is the administrator of the home.”
